Big Sur The name conjures up magical views, sun-drenched mountains, endless views of the Pacific and an unequaled majesty. Known as an artists' haven, it is the centerpiece of the Scenic Highway One. Rich in Spanish history, Big Sur is the English derivative of el pais grande del sur - the big land to the south.
Lucia Lodge is a historic cliff-side resort located in the heart of the Big Sur coast. The lodge was built in the 1930's and was completed even before Coast Highway One reached its south coast location. The Lucia Lodge occupies land pioneered and settled by the Harlan family in 1865 and is now operated by family's fifth generation.
Located on the ocean side of Highway One midway between the Monterey Bay and Cambria, Lucia Lodge offers a stunning view of the Big Sur coastline and rugged Santa Lucia Mountains. In addition to a stunning scenic view, this area of the Big Sur coast is rich in wildlife. Some of the species you might encounter include endangered Peregrine Falcons, American and Bald Eagles, California Condors, and California Sea Otters, as well as sea lions, bobcats, deer and a large population of smaller creatures and birds.
Lucia Lodge offers rustic cabin accommodations, ocean-view deck dining and fireside dining in our historic dining room. The cabins are situated along a southwest facing cliff 300 feet above the Pacific Ocean, which offers an unparalleled view of the Big Sur coast.
